“It’s a wonderful feeling when your father becomes not a god but a man to you – when he comes down from the mountain and you see he’s this man with weaknesses. And you love him as this whole being, not as a figurehead.” – Robin Williams
Most who know Ashwin aka my dad know he isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade. He also isn’t afraid to mention when I am wrong. His harsh yet truthful approach is what makes me tough and for that I am grateful.
As much as the past 6 months have been rewarding, it has also been tumultuous and rough in terms of business for me. When I felt like giving up and just crumbling, it was my dad who showed me how to rise from a fall… how to face a challenge head on… and how to be honest with myself, more than anything else.
I appreciate his imperfections, even his abrasive approach which really annoys me at times. I can deal with it all because I know that I have a father. A father who came from a simple yet complicated way of life… A father who isn’t afraid to be himself… A father with no airs and graces… A father with a larger than life personality… A father who pushed himself to achieve… A father who has lost… A father who has gained… A father who protects… A father with integrity… A father who loves… I know I have a father.
Happy Father’s Day, Ash.
