Motherly Appreciation at Mary Asher Home | Megasmile Foundation

I could not have picked a better way to spend a Thursday afternoon other than in the company of beautiful souls at the Mary Asher Home for the Aged in Sydenham. When Akshi from the Megasmile Foundation called me up and asked if I’d assist, it was a no brainer. Akshi and her team decided to pamper the ladies with a mani, pedi or massage as well as spoil them with some good food.

Many have a preconceived notion of what a home for the aged is about. Whatever that may be, as soon as you step foot into the Mary Asher Home and meet the ladies, your judgement falls by the wayside. The Home provides accommodation and healthcare. The ladies have their own rooms which was nice to see as each were individually adorned with their own special memories and nuances.

At times I completely forgot about photography, just sat down and had a hearty conversation with the ladies. What I learnt was, that everybody has a story regardless of what they appear to be or what our perception of them may be. Also, everyone needs positive human interaction and tenderness. It might just make a difference, especially towards the tale end of a person’s life.

Great initiative Megasmile Foundation, you do good work!

Awesome blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own site soon but I’m
a little lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress
or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that
I’m totally overwhelmed .. Any ideas? Cheers!
